Cronotech concludes 2025 Ride to FIM Awards programme

The 2025 Ride to FIM Awards programme concluded on Tuesday (18 November) at the Maison du Sport International in Lausanne, Switzerland, where two-time FIM Superbike World Champion James Toseland hosted the third and final Panel, entitled ‘Cronotech’.

Launched in 2022, the Ride to FIM Awards project promotes the annual FIM Awards Ceremony – scheduled this year for 6 December at the Swiss Tech Convention Center in Lausanne – through a series of events addressing issues of fundamental importance for the FIM while exploring the legacy shared with the host city and region.

Following this year’s opening two Panels on the subjects of ‘Innovation’ and ‘Sustainability’, ‘Cronotech’ explored how advancements in timekeeping systems and data visualisation technologies are transforming the way motorsport is experienced, narrated and understood, particularly for the digital generation.

Following welcome messages from FIM Deputy CEO and Operations Director Damiano Zamana and Sebastien Griesmar – Director of the Foundation Lausanne Olympic Capital, discussions were led by panellists Fabio Muner – FIM Marketing and Digital Director; Giorgio Giordani – Vice President – Senior Chief – WSBK Timekeeping System Perugia Timing; Xavi Figueras – TV Director – WorldSBK Live Coverage Manager – Dorna; Laurent Zwahlen – CEO – NuLink; Julien Moix – CEO – Insiders; and Romuald Mosqueron – Professeur HES associé – Haute école d’Ingénierie et de Gestion du Canton de Vaud (HEIG-VD).

In front of a highly-engaged audience of students, the panellists provided an in-depth overview of their operational domains and opened a dynamic discussion on the future of fan engagement, highlighting the seamless integration of timing systems, wireless networks and broadcast production.

A discussion on the end-to-end technology landscape in modern motorsport spanned the full spectrum of real-world motorcycle racing operations, ranging from Dorna Sport’s TV directing and graphic design responsibilities through to Perugia Timing’s advanced timekeeping solutions and the development of digital platforms.

Alternatives to traditional broadcasting solutions to democratise event coverage were also explored with presentations of the 5G private network solution developed by NuLink and Insiders’ 5G positioning and hub device and its approach for in-cloud, real-time storage, along with HEIG-VD’s enhanced transmission efficiency and remote-operated systems designed to reduce costs while ensuring high-performance delivery.

Pascal Vuilliomenet, EPFL Strategic Project Manager, reiterated the recurring message of the importance of an interconnected ecosystem to enable productive knowledge sharing, forward-looking planning and the development of synergistic collaborations across the ecosystem.

The focus is now on the 2025 FIM Awards which will take place on the 6th December, In just over two weeks’ time, where all FIM World Champions assemble at the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne, Switzerland.
