Burrows kicks off 2026 in style
Jack Burrows (Burrows Engineering / RK Racing) began the 2026 R&G Moto4 British Cup in style, securing the opening victory of the season by 0.195s. The 16 finished ahead of Jack Dunabie (Kovara Projects / RS Racing), who enters his sophomore season in the championship. Finally, Ryan Frost (Fibre Tec Honda By MLav Racing) rounded out the opening podium of the season, with the 24 in search of the title after missing out in 2025. If Race 1 was anything to go by, we are in for an epic ride in 2026!
Frost took the lead on the opening lap, being chased by Dunabie, Burrows and rookie Luke Fitchett (Kovara Projects / RS Racing), who showed encouraging signs on debut. Burrows made his first attack in the final sector, igniting an incredible scrap as Dunabie also got his elbows out during the opening stages. The fighting allowed City Lifting / RS Racing’s Clayton Edmunds and Marco Holt to catch the leading pack, growing the group to five riders.
The fastest lap changed hands multiple times, with the lap record being shattered by Frost, clocking a 1:45.569. As the pace heated up, so did the drama as Edmunds lost the front at Turn 1 – crashing out on Lap 9. Over the next few laps, there was also drama with Jensen Bishop (Wilson Racing), with the #11 falling in Sector 2.
Burrows held the advantage in a now four-rider group, with tension brewing in the closing stages as the laps ticked down. Every move proved to be crucial before, as the red flag was brought out on Lap 11 following an incident involving Hudson Cooper (Rides R Us / NW Racing) and Fitchett. The race was declared a result, bringing an early end to the 12-lap season opener as Burrows was declared the winner.
Burrows’ official winning margin sat at 0.195s, with the RK Racing rider finishing ahead of Dunabie and Frost on a stacked podium. Holt finished his first British Cup race in fourth, with Mason Foster (Mortimer Racing) rounding out the top five. Harrison Day (LRA Moto supported by HV Solutions) converted his testing pace into race day, finishing sixth, whilst Joshua Williams (Dunsley Heat Racing) and George Bowes (A Edwards Racing) claimed the final places inside the top eight. Henry McCartney (Stanford Racing) and Thorley Trevorrow (Fibre Tec Honda By MLav Racing) finished inside the top 10 – setting up a Race 2 blockbuster.
